At 0900 this morning the flag was raised and the doors opened to the ARC Europe office, nicely located just off the beach at Nanny Cay. The first of the arrivals, including ‘Resolution 3’, ‘Neva’ and ‘Diatonic’, have already checked in. ‘Thor VI’ called up Rally Control on the VHF after listening to the morning broadcast, even though they were still 5 miles from Nanny Cay!
Registration at the ARC Europe office is followed by a mandatory Safety Equipment Inspection onboard, when a member of the World Cruising team spends time checking through the safety equipment required for the Rally. It also gives them a chance to talk through correct procedures for potential emergency situtations at sea.
There is a relaxed but full programme ashore, starting tonight with a welcome gathering on the beachside terrace for all the crews. WIth all the fleet due to be safely in Nanny Cay marina by the late afternoon, it will also be a great chance for the many crews to get to know each other.
