Click to enlargeWith the traditional flag raising undertaken by Andrew Bishop, ARC Europe 2010 officially opened its doors at Nanny Cay for the second year yesterday. After successfully hosting the event last year, the Nanny Cay crew are again pleased to welcome the participating yachts.
Almost all of the yachts are now in Nanny Cay with the remaining few expected to be here tomorrow to finish their preparations and enjoy the week’s programme before the start on Thursday.
Many of the yachts have been enjoying their cruising in the BVIs and had only short hops to arrive today. ‘Peejay’ coming from Cane Garden Bay and ‘Fair Encounter’ from West End, Tortola. Others came from further afield, ‘Blonde Moment’ called into Jost Van Dyke for the night after sailing up from Anguilla while ‘Setantii’ only just recently launched after some time on the hard.
Everyone is relaxed and talk about a great season in the Caribbean since many of them arrived in Saint Lucia with ARC 2009. With the three yachts starting from the USA the start of Leg 1 to Bermuda will soon be upon us and it seems aside from a small amount of maintenance, provisioning and the weather are all that is left to plan.
