The crew of Solferino enjoy a rum punch at the welcome artyARC Europe yachts dressed overall at Nanny CayAfter a damp day in the BVI, all the crews taking part in ARC Europe were more than ready to get off their boats to sample a rum punch or two at the welcome cocktail last night. Nanny Cay Marina provided some delicious canapés (if we say so ourselves) which were all washed down with a typical rum punch (or two) compliments of Peg Legs. It was a great opportunity for participants to get to know other crews taking part in the rally and to share a few stories with old friends too. Miles Sutherland-Pilch, general manager at Nanny Cay also went long to meet everyone and to extend a warm welcome to the marina and Tortola.

The World Cruising crew which includes Director Andrew Bishop and the team who will be looking after participants and greeting them at every port – event manager Fionn McKee, and Olivier Delahaye – also welcomed everyone to the event.

With only a couple of days to go until the start on Thursday, there’s lots of preparations going on and the inclement weather is not doing anything to help. One crew member on Graham Roxburgh’s Hylas 46, Solferino told us last night that he went out on deck to make some repairs, ended up like a drowned rat all day and was only allowed back down below once he had finished and the rain had stopped!

After a blustery night, which did not seem to dampen the spirits at Peg Legs, the rain seems to have gone through this morning. More safety equipment inspections and crew arrivals today and we are expecting the final seven yachts.
