Eddie Jordan & Luca perform at the Beach Bar Sunday nightEddie Jordan of Formula 1 Racing fame and now Primary Analyst for the BBC’s F1 coverage recently spent a couple of nights on the docks at Nanny Cay.

Eddie Jordan has always been a huge music fan and currently plays in a four piece band, irreverently named Eddie & the Robbers, as well as an acoustic 3 piece band called FTB. He, along with band member Luca, joined CP4 on stage during Nanny Cay’s 10th Anniversary Beach Bash on Saturday night and performed again at the Beach Bar on Sunday night too.

Eddie’s band evolved through him jamming at events like the British Grand Prix and has grown into a serious outfit with reputable musicians alongside Eddie guaranteeing great music, craic and fun.

Eddie & The Robbers have previously headlined on the Pet Sounds Stage at T in the Park and performed for thousands of music fans at the Isle of Wight Festival. They also perform at Windsor and at many other charity events. During a recent gig for Amber Rocks, Eddie jammed together with Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Mike Rutherford (Genesis), and Roger Daltry (The Who). Eddie has also played with Ronnie Wood, Rod Stewart, Bryan Adams, Roger Taylor, the Stereophonics and Boyzone amongst others.

 

A former racing driver, team owner and entrepreneur, Eddie he has been a key member of the BBC team since 2009 and 2011 sees him in an expanded role.

Introduced to karting in 1970, Eddie was hooked and embarked on a driving career. Winning the Formula Atlantic Championship sealed his long term contract as a driver with Marlboro which paved the way for races in Formula 3, Formula 2 and testing a McLaren F1 car (in 1979). He has also driven in the World Sports Car Championship and Le Mans.  Eddie retired from racing as a driver to set up his own team in 1980 and a host of drivers owe their breaks to Eddie as a champion of young talent, including Ayrton Senna, Martin Brundle & Damon Hill.

Inspired by the success of his junior drivers, Eddie established Jordan Grand Prix in 1990 and entered F1, and throughout the 90’s were the only team to break the monopoly on F1 success held by Ferrari, Williams and McLaren.  Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher’s one two in the 98 Belgian Grand Prix made history, as Jordan Grand Prix became the first team in the sport to win its maiden F1 race with a 1-2.  In 1999 Heinz-Harald Frentzen won the French and Italian GPs for Jordan and finished third in the World Championship.  The team also won the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2003 with Giancarlo Fisichella. Eddie sold Jordan Grand Prix in January 2005 to concentrate on other interests.

Drivers who have won Grands Prix who have driven for Eddie include Hill, Mansell, Schumacher (Michael), and Senna, also becoming world champions, and Alesi, Barichello, Boutsen, Fisichella, Frentzen, Herbert, Irvine, Moreno, Schumacher (Ralf), Trulli and Watson.

Eddie’s interests outside motorsport include football, horse racing, golf and, in particular, music. He also dedicates time to his favourite charities: CLIC Sargent and Amber, as well getting involved with the Special Olympics.
