She was purchased from the insurers earlier this year and everything came together this week for her move to St Maarten where she is going to re-built.
Male molds for the replacement hulls are currently under construction in St Maarten and in addition to the obvious hull repairs needed, the wiring and A/C systems need replacing, as do most of the two engines – but some parts can be salvaged for spares.
It took some time to find a barge that was large enough to carry this catamaran – with a beam of 25 feet, 9 inches – but narrow enough to fit in the haulout dock. There were inches to spare on either side, but even less between the topsides of the barge and wheels of the Marine Travelift as it approached. With barely an inch on either side, it took some precision manoeuvring to finally get the Travelift past the topsides, and the catamaran safely on the barge.
After chocking and strapping down, the barge departed mid-morning for what looked like a calm crossing to St Maarten.
The new owner, confident in his build team, hopes that she’ll be splashed again in the new year.
