The BVI’s premier marine electronics provider, Cay Electronics, has relocated out of Wickham’s Cay II to a new specially built location in the heart of Nanny Cay.

Established in 1982, Cay Electronics serves as the BVI’s most renowned engineering, sales and service company specializing in the sale, installation and repair of a variety of marine related electronics and electrical equipment.

Although the company operated out of Wickham’s Cay II for over 30 years, moving to Nanny Cay has definitely proven to be a move in the right direction. The new Nanny Cay location is twice the size of the previous one and currently houses over $600,000 worth of inventory. Owner Robert Wassell emphasizes that the store is in the process of increasing inventory, but there certainly isn’t any rush.

Wassell said: “Sales have gone up but electronics is a fairly fast moving field so it’s not a good idea to hold a lot of stock over long periods of time. We are more than happy to update our electronics inventory as much as possible so the client can get the best version.”

Cay Electronics is an agent for a variety of important manufacturers and not only do they provide store warranties for their installations, they are also manufacturer certified installers and distributors. Some of the brands they offer include Sea Tel, KVH, Simrad, Raymarine, Mastervolt, Thrane, Furuno, Victron Energy, Xantrex, Inmarsat, Northern Lights, B&G, ABB and Icom.

Cay Electronics’ five technicians have over 90 years of combined experience and are trained to ensure that they will be able to go out to a boat and handle a wide range of issues in the electronics on it.

“All of our technicians are broad ranging, multi disciplinary, versatile technicians,” said Wassell. “However we do have a technical director who is a resource for all of our technicians to turn to if they run into something that they’ve never seen before or if they have a problem that they need some help with.”

It is evident that the company’s dedication to knowledge is one of the reasons why it can boast having client relationships that have lasted over 25-30 years.

When asked how he feels about relocating to Nanny Cay Wassell said: “We are really happy to be here. This is the culmination of a lot of planning. We’re extremely pleased to be at the most important marina in the BVI and we’re looking forward to the future.”
