Construction has started on the new south marina, expanded boatyard, and enhanced amenities at Nanny Cay.

The development, estimated at over $30 million, aims to elevate Nanny Cay into the Caribbean’s premier resort marina. Key features of the expansion include: new south marina with 112-slips designed to accommodate the latest generation of catamarans and megayachts; increased capacity boatyard and a new custom-designed 150-ton travel lift dedicated to the latest wave of 60, 70 and 80 foot catamarans now arriving in the Caribbean – one of the widest in the region at 44 feet wide; a new beach and beach bar; two-level restaurant with panoramic views of the Sir Francis Drake Channel, cocktail bar and gourmet dining on first floor, casual dining and beach bar at ground level; event area with stage circled by restaurant village with private seating and dining areas, gardens and children’s play area; retail and commercial space; HLSCC marine training centre; storage and launch facilities for the Royal BVI Yacht Club youth sailing programme.

The existing marina can accommodate 302 yachts, with capacity for 110 monohulls in the Outer Marina and 192 monohulls of various sizes in the Inner Marina (or their catamaran equivalent).  The boatyard has two travel lifts: one is a 50-ton Marine Travelift capable of lifting monohulls up to 68 feet long, 10 feet draft and weighing up to 50 tons; the second is a wide-body 70-ton Marine Travelift capable of lifting and moving catamarans up to 32 foot beam and 70 tons in weight. The boatyard also has two hydraulic trailers.

The marina resort also includes a 52-bed hotel facility, 32 water front townhouses, 11 retail outlets, 3 restaurants and bar facilities, and chandlery with over 6000 different items in the store.

In order to ensure minimise disruption to existing services at Nanny Cay, the construction of the new marina and amenities has been divided into two main phases, split between seaside and landside construction. There will be some overlap of the phases and construction is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2028.

Construction of the breakwater (the armour wall) to contain, shelter and protect the new south marina is the first stage of phase I of the development which also encompasses reclamation, and expansion of the existing boatyard; and construction of a new 150-ton haul out facility.

Phase II of construction comprises: new beach, beach bar and facilities; regatta and event village; sea view restaurant; marine Hub with Royal BVI Yacht Club and HLSCC Marine Centre; concierge facility, including shower and bathroom facilities; landscape gardens; retail and food village; commercial units; addition of new parking facilities, service roads, board walks and other facilities

The official groundbreaking ceremony of the new development took place on Friday, October 31, 2025. The symbolic event was held at Nanny Cay with government officials, local dignitaries, and members of the marine industry in attendance to mark the significant occasion. Notable attendees included: Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, His Excellency, The Governor Mr. Daniel Pruce, and Deputy Premier and Minister of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Honourable Julian Fraser.
