Ready for the 2012 BVI Charter Yacht Show in November, new Walcon docks were installed over the Summer/Fall period in the area by the fuel dock. Renewing a relationship that stretches back over thirty years, Walcon installed five superyacht berths each capable of taking yachts up to 40 metres in length.
With the annual risk of hurricanes and the tough Caribbean environment, Walcon specified the heavy-duty version of its System 2000 pontoon model. Three metres wide and designed to withstand high loads, these have the added advantage of being made in aluminium. This gives them excellent resistance against corrosion. Along with the pontoons two access bridges were also built in the UK and shipped across the Atlantic, along with safety ladders and emergency cabinets.
The original marina was built by Walcon in the UK and transported to Tortola in 1980. The company has been back regularly over the years for maintenance and expansion projects.
“The new docks are working very well for us,” said Cameron McColl. “They have lifted the whole marina to a new level and give us great flexibility when it comes to events. The quality of the docks has been commented on by all who have used them. All in all, from the planning to the installation and even the follow up, it’s been a pleasure working with Walcon.”
The docks have been busy ever since their installation. No sooner had the BVI Charter Yacht Show finished and Nanny Cay was into the Christmas period. Two yachts that dominated the docks were the beautiful motoryachts, ‘My Colors’ and ‘VivieRae’.
‘My Colors’ is a 130-foot Westport tri-deck motor yacht built in 2005. She can accommodate up to 10 guests in five staterooms, plus up to 7 crew.
The large covered aft deck al fresco dining for 10 also has casual seating and a full bar.
The upper deck features an enclosed sky lounge with a state-of-the-art entertainment center, game table and full wet bar. The Sky lounge also has access to the boat deck that has casual dining for 8 to 10 guests, an 8-person Jacuzzi and stairs leading to the flybridge and aft deck.
The flybridge provides three large sunpads, seating for up to 16 guests, and another wet bar. There is also a ‘key-hole’ seating area on the bow for 6 guests and a large sun pad on the bow peak
‘VivieRae’ is an 86 foot long expedition-style luxury motor yacht built at Nordhavn in 2007 and offers luxury accommodations for up to six guest guests in four staterooms.
Next up for the docks, the BVI Spring Regatta.
