It was a great atmosphere. The sun was out, the sky was blue and you could have been forgiven you were in the Caribbean as crews arrived for the after racing Caribbean drinks party to celebrate the 2013 BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival with Nanny Cay.

After an excellent day’s racing on day one of the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week regatta, crews were ready for a glass of Mount Gay Rum after racing. With Caribbean music playing as guests arrived and Mount Gay Rum and ginger served from the rum shack bar, everyone had lots of fun. It was a lively atmosphere and great vibe.

Chris Williams played an hour’s set of live Caribbean influenced music. The party was hosted at Ondeck’s hospitality area in Cowes Yacht Haven. Guests included sailors who have raced in the BVI Spring Regatta in the past, some yachting media including the sailing correspondent from the Independent newspaper, Cowes Yachting magazine, Yachts & Yachting and of course some of the crew from the infamous Cowes Radio, including the on-the-water commentator, Dick Johnson.

Interested in finding out what the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival is all about, crews from some of the larger yachts racing at Cowes Week came to see what the promise of warm water and hot racing was all about! Ginny Hawksley from the BVI Tourist Board also came along to lend a helping hand and to tell people about the beautiful BVI Islands. The Mount Gay Rum continued to flow….. until it was time to move onto the next party of the evening before heading home and looking forward to another great day out on the water.

Thanks to Mount Gay Rum for supplying a little taste of the Caribbean and hoping to see many of our Cowes Week friends and sailors out in Tortola and at Nanny Cay for the 2013 BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival on 25th to 31st March 2013 with a new format Sailing Festival.  Watch this space!
