Welcome Party on the beach terrace – click to enlargeAfter a busy day of checking yachts in at the office and carrying out Safety Equipment Inspections it was soon time for the Welcome Party on the beach terrace. A glass or two of the Caribbean Rum Punch, along with some fine canapés, got the participants meeting one another.
As with many of the World Cruising Club events participants have seen each other before and soon recognise boat names. The crews from ‘Setantii’ and ‘Fair Encounter’ realised they had sailed together during Rally Portugal several years ago and recalled towing another rally yacht into harbour – ‘Fair Encounter’ receiving a prize Lego tugboat as a reward!
Almost all of the yachts have now arrived with ‘Gilly of London’ sneaking in before sunset after two-day sail up from Saint Lucia. They made it in time for a fantastic BBQ supper prepared by Head Chef Vaughan Grant and his team and plenty of the participants were, as they say here, “belly full”!
