Lucky 7 Wins Nanny Cay Round Tortola Race; Mike Hirst Sets a New Record

A beautiful morning greeted the 11 competitors and delivered champagne sailing throughout the anti-clockwise around Tortola course.

First away at 09:35 were the Monohulls and cruising catamaran, followed by the three trimarans at 09:50.  But all eyes were on Mike Hirst and Chris Brockbank with their foiling kites as they put down a challenge to establish a new kiteboarding record for the event.

Hirst Sets New Round Tortola Kiteboarding Record

BVI waterman Mike Hirst broke the overall Round Tortola Record, and established a new kiteboarding record, yesterday (January 13, 2019) covering 49 miles in 2 hours, 14 minutes and 54 seconds.

Cedar School Takes A Maritime History Tour

Just before Christmas, a group of Cedar School students visited the historic Tortola Boats (Virgin Island Sloops).  Jamel ¨Fiyah¨ Davies and Norissa deLeon led the tour.  Jamel´s grandfather and uncle both built Tortola Boats and he enthusiastically imparts his knowledge of this part of his heritage.

Preparing For 48th BVI Spring Regatta

Nanny Cay Resort & Marina has the been host sponsor of the BVI Spring Regatta since 2002. The crew is already working hard to prepare for the 48th edition, March 25-31, 2019.

The Regatta Village was newly located at the outer marina last year and in 2019 it will boast 100 slips along with full provisions of ice, water, power and fuel and the inner marina is expected to be complete with 200 slips.

The 37th annual BVI Charter Yacht Society’s (CYS) Charter Yacht Show just concluded here at Nanny Cay. The four-day event held November 6-9 saw CYS members, visiting charter yachts, brokers and other industry partners mingling at the seventh event to be held at Nanny Cay.
