Lighter Conditions Shake Up Leaderboard on Day 2 BVI Spring Regatta
Conditions were light overall with 10-12 knots on the Sol course and 8-10 knots on the Norman course, from a north easterly direction. Sunscreen – lots of it – was the call for the day as sailors raced under brilliant sunny skies. The lighter air today favored some, resulting in shifts on the leaderboard.

Outer marina buzzing as boats prep for BVI Spring Regatta
Today was a day of prep and practice, onshore and offshore for a full weekend of racing ahead. Blue skies and a 15 knot breeze motivated many of the 66 boats registered to race this weekend’s BVI Spring Regatta to take advantage of a perfect day on the water to polish maneuvers, while others were preoccupied shoreside getting equipment race ready.
Swan 45 Samantaga Win ABSOLUT.® Full Moon Race
A fun reach in 15+ knots under sunny skies to the finish of the inaugural ABSOLUT.® Full Moon Race was welcomed by race winners, Belgian team Samantaga, especially after toughing out a night of big breeze and plenty of rain.
Samantaga finished the 165 NM around the BVI race in 24 hours, 35 minutes and 4 seconds.
Challenging Conditions In Round Tortola Race
It was a very challenging day for the all the classes who started the Round Tortola Race for the Nanny Cay Cup. With a breeze that clocked the compass amidst squalls and at times, no breeze whatsoever. race officials shortened the course mid-afternoon to allow several boats to finish within the allotted time.

It’s business as usual around the docks at Nanny Cay as hundreds of sailors from around the world prepare for the first major event to be held in the British Virgin Islands since Hurricane Irma – the BVI Spring Regatta.
Marina Update – Phased Roll Out Of New Docks
The damage caused to the inner marina by Hurricane Irma on September 6th, has resulted in the need to completely replace the docks. This damage reduced our overall dockage capacity by 75%.
The current goal is to have the inner marina fully operational by November, with phased roll out of docks and services between now and then.
47th BVI Spring Regatta Coming Up
The 47th edition of the BVI Spring Regatta (BVISR), taking place March 26-1 April, will be the first major international event held since Hurricane Irma and Maria tore through the islands last September.
Everyone has worked tirelessly since the devastating hurricanes to ensure that the regatta, which this year includes an exciting new full moon event offering competitors a chance to race around the beautiful British Virgin Islands, will go ahead.
The 2018 BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival kicks off with a four-day warm-up, followed by the main three-day regatta from 26th March to 1st April.
Boatyard Team Completes Post-Irma Recovery
At 3pm on February 23, the Nanny Cay team righted the last boat in the boatyard that had been toppled by Hurricane Irma on September 6th.
Over 200 boats were moved in the process, with us having to move 80 boats to reach the 130 boats that had to be righted and re-chocked.
