A perfect day for record setting at the BVI Sailing Festival saw Fujin, the Bieker 53 catamaran owned and skippered by Greg Slyngstad, win the Nanny Cay Challenge with the fastest elapsed time of 1:57:16, breaking the standing multihull record set in 2015 by the trimaran Triple Jack of 2:33:40 – and the outright record of 2:14:54 set by Mike Hirst on a kiteboard in January. The monohull record was also overturned by E1, the Volvo 70 skippered by Rafal Sawicki in an elapsed time of 2:53:08, beating the previous record set in 2016 by the TP52 Spookie of 3:08:43.

In addition to being The Official Rum of the BVI Spring Regatta (BVISR), Mount Gay Rum will sponsor the first day of the Regatta on Friday March 29th as Mount Gay Race Day.
Following the BVI Sailing Festival, three days of competitive racing will kick off at 1000 on Friday March 29, with the new Mount Gay Race Day where around 90 boats and sailors from 20 countries will test their mettle on some of the world’s best waters for sailing.
Growing Offshore Multihull Fleet Finds Its Pace at BVI Spring Regatta
With just a few weeks to go before the 48th annual BVI Sailing Festival and Spring Regatta, the entry list is now at 80 boats, with an anticipated final count of at least 90.
The Offshore Multihull fleet has steadily grown in the BVI Spring Regatta and this year, John and Carol Gallagher are looking forward to competing in their Gunboat 62 Chim Chim.

Nanny Cay Resort & Marina has the been host sponsor of the BVI Spring Regatta since 2002. The crew is already working hard to prepare for the 48th edition, March 25-31, 2019.
The Regatta Village was newly located at the outer marina last year and in 2019 it will boast 100 slips along with full provisions of ice, water, power and fuel and the inner marina is expected to be complete with 200 slips.

On the final day of racing in the 47th edition of the BVI Spring Regatta, which ended on a light note along with plenty of cold beer, sunshine and smiles, the story was really about the fantastic job Nanny Cay and the regatta organizers have done to make this year's BVI Spring Regatta event happen post Hurricane Irma.

Conditions were light overall with 10-12 knots on the Sol course and 8-10 knots on the Norman course, from a north easterly direction. Sunscreen – lots of it – was the call for the day as sailors raced under brilliant sunny skies. The lighter air today favored some, resulting in shifts on the leaderboard.
