Marina Update – Phased Roll Out Of New Docks

The damage caused to the inner marina by Hurricane Irma on September 6th, has resulted in the need to completely replace the docks. This damage reduced our overall dockage capacity by 75%.

The current goal is to have the inner marina fully operational by November, with phased roll out of docks and services between now and then.

A ceremony held at the entrance to the new outer marina last night (Monday, December 12), heralded its opening at Nanny Cay.

With speeches by Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE, the Honourable Julian Fraser, and Miles Sutherland Pilch, general manager of Nanny Cay, the ceremony also included sailing demonstrations by the Royal BVI Yacht Club’s Youth Sailing programme and a kitesurfing flypast.

Docks Arrive For New Outer Marina

The unloading of the first 9 of 12 containers on the new peninsula at Nanny Cay heralded the arrival of the new docks for phase one of the new outer marina.

Two specialists from the docks’ manufacturers, Walcon Marine, arrived yesterday to start the Meccano-esque assembly of the pontoons. They are working with some of the Nanny Cay Projects team and Husky Salvage & Towing.

First New Docks By End Of Year

In July last year, construction started on a new outer marina at Nanny Cay. Here’s the progress date: The revetment is 90% complete, while dredging and construction of the 6.5-acre peninsula – which is a combination of dredged material and land we have literally moved from one side to the other – is 75% complete. Sheet piling to form the inner wall of the marina has started, and construction of the main access bridge is underway.
