Champagne start for Aiyana

In today’s Round Tortola Race for the Nanny Cay Cup, Peter Corr’s Alia 82, Aiyana smashed the monohull record by nearly half an hour. Setting a new record of 3 hours, 29 minutes and 44 seconds for the 37-mile run around Tortola.

Aiyana is the largest yacht competing at the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival and the crew let out a big ‘cheer’ dockside as the news came through they had broken the course monohull record.

Celebration Time in BVI

Hosted by Nanny Cay, the biggest international sporting event in the BVI starts today, Monday March 25th with the 42nd BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival.
Registration for the Sailing Festival is now open and tonight a Welcome Party and barbeque at Peg Legs Beach Bar here at Nanny Cay, will start the social programme. A week-long event is scheduled, packed with fun ashore and superb racing in one of the world’s finest sailing grounds. Tortola Sloop, Intrepid, officially returned home today

At a presentation held today at Peg Legs Restaurant, Intrepid, a Tortola Sloop, was presented to the Virgin Islands Maritime Museum by the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival in association with VP Bank. Intrepid will join Moonbeam and Youth Instructor on the docks here at Nanny Cay – the unofficial home of these historic boats.

16th Dark and Stormy Full of Surprises

Rushin Rowlette finishes off Nanny CayAfter 16 years experience the West End Yacht Club thought they had seen it all, but this year’s regatta held new surprises. For the second year the race was also the climax of the six-race Gosling’s Series that started last July with the Firecracker. Rather than “Dark and Stormy” the race might better have been described as “light and swelly” with NW winds on Saturday less than 5 knots and a 12 -15 ft swell promised for the passage to Anegada.

Dark & Stormy Anegada Regatta to finish at Nanny Cay

Registration for this ‘fungatta’ will take place on Friday (March 8) at 6 o’clock at De Loose Mongoose in Trellis Bay, followed by a BBQ and live music. The following morning, the skippers meeting will take place at 9 o’clock accompanied by a Mongoose breakfast. Two starts will take place at 10:30 and 10:35 for the rally up to Anegada Reef Hotel, and racing will be followed by a welcome party at Anegada Reef Hotel.

Sweethearts and Classics taste the teeth of the SE wind
