Fuel dispensers upgraded

We’ve upgraded the Sol fuel dispensers and moved them to middle of one of the new megayacht docks (K dock). There are now two diesel and one gas dispenser, and each has a 100-foot hose. Importantly for customers, the new dispensers have a digital readout that shows the cost of the fuel as well as the gallons pumped.

Nanny Cay installs marine pump-out facility

Nanny Cay has installed Tortola’s first marine waste pump-out facility on the new K dock near the entrance to the marina. The US-built SaniSailor marine pump-out system can remove waste at 20-35 gallons per minute. This will feed into Nanny Cay’s existing waste treatment plant which currently processes approximately 19,000 gallons of waste water per day.

Debra, our marina attendant, hails from Dominica and has been working at Nanny Cay for the last seven years, joining from Samuel Security. She arrived in the BVI in 1995, she’s the mother of three children: two boys, 19 and 12, and a 14 year old girl.

New Walcon docks busy; accommodate yachts up to 40m

Ready for the 2012 BVI Charter Yacht Show in November, new Walcon docks were installed over the Summer/Fall period in the area by the fuel dock. Renewing a relationship that stretches back over thirty years, Walcon installed five superyacht berths each capable of taking yachts up to 40 metres in length.

Sol and Nanny Cay support optimistic season for youth sailors in the BVI as new coach joins Royal BVI Yacht Club

Deborah Benjamin (far left), country manager for Sol presents support cheques to Brian Duff, a volunteer of the Royal BVI Yacht Club youth sailing programme as young sailors and new sailing instructor/coach, Omari Scott (front right), show their approval.The Royal BVI Sailing Club (RBVIYC) youth sailors welcomed new instructor and coach, Omari Scott, to his first junior programme session on Saturday, October 1 at Nanny Cay. To mark the occasion, Deborah Benjamin, country manager for Sol, attended the post-lesson debrief and gave a monetary donation to Brian Duff, one of the many volunteers who help to run the youth sailing programme. The donation is part of the company’s agreement to support the RBVIYC junior sailing programme in conjunction with Nanny Cay Marina.

SY Aiyana at the BVI Spring Regatta

Visitors to this year’s 40th Anniversary BVI Spring Regatta (and Nanny Cay’s docks) will be able to marvel at a brand new superyacht that will be competing in the Spinnaker racing fleet. Launched in 2010, Yacht Aiyana is spending its first season in the Caribbean before heading to the Mediterranean for the summer months and will be docked at Nanny Cay Marina for the duration of the regatta.  Aiyana will be hard to miss with its 82 foot blue hull and very sleek low profile lines, which give it a very smooth look and style. Designed in New Zealand by the renowned firm Warwick Yacht Design and built by Alia Yachts in Turkey, Aiyana reflects the latest advances in yacht design, technology and interior luxury.

Nanny Cay cleaning up and back in operation

Nanny Cay’s maintenance crew has been in full swing cleaning up after the passing of Hurricane Earl yesterday.  Like much of the BVI, trees, branches and a lot of leaves were lost.  But that was it.  All the yachts in the boatyard are still standing and all the yachts on docks the afloat; some have a little “scuff” damage.  Everything stood up well.  Even Peg Legs at the mouth of the marina only suffered two broken fans and a broken cupboard door; re-opening is still on schedule.

Meridian – The Largest Yacht To Ever Dock At Nanny Cay

Click image to enlarge.Meridian, a 161-foot yacht built by Mississippi-based Trinity Yachts, now holds the distinction of being the largest ever vessel to dock at Nanny Cay.  S/V Bossy Boots at 140 feet, held the previous record.

This tri-deck 161 ft. x 28 ft. motoryacht is capable of a cruising speed of 22 knots and carries approximately 16,700 gallons (63,215L) of fuel.  She has a fresh water capacity of approximately 2,700 gallons (10,220). The two water makers will generate 2,400 gpd. (15,898 lpd.) each. For stabilization and especially to ensure comfort in an exposed anchorage, she has been fitted with two (2) active fin system with Zero Speed by Quantum.

Meridian can accommodate an owner’s party of ten in five spaciously planned staterooms in mahogany with en suite baths exquisitely finished with inlaid marble.  Each of the four guest staterooms are located below the main deck.  There are two with king size berths, two with twin berths.
